Ancient Story is Ancient (and Boring) Was looking at the sprites and noticed some Digimon are called Ancient so and so. So I wanted to know why it was called that. So I pulled an Abe Simpson and made up stories.

Abe Simpson and Digimon. One of the few times this kind of cross over can ever work XD

I think the only "Ancient" digimon we should have are Babamon and Jijimon.

It's confusing, really. All the backstories state the Digital World was created when the first computer went online in the mid-1900s. And that's fine for continuities like Adventure and Frontier, where the DW has a different time than the real world so it makes sense they have thousands of years of history, but what about Tamers and Data Squad? Time flows at the same rate in those so what.

/enters digimon nerd mode Different Time Frames: in Adventure and Frontier timelines run at a different speed, and since in Frontier is the only time THEY ACTUALLY APPEAR CANONICALLY, thus they aren't important in referance to Tamers and Data Squad, then they are called Ancient because they are the Ancient Warriors. Although in Frontier none of them were actually CALLED by name, the only way you would know would be buying the cards or something anyways. Seriously.

IN ACTUALITY OF ALL MERCHANDISE AND VIDEO GAMES. They are called Ancient because of heir appearance which makes them look like they came from a much earlier time than the present. Also to seperate them from the digimon they may be the "Ancient" version of.

Like honestly you could be asking this question about ANY DIGIMON WITH AN ADJECTIVE IN FRONT OF IT'S NAME. Like...Why is WarGreymon called WarGreymon, it doesn't look like it's armed for War. Or at least not War in a modern sense of the term.
That's basically the type of question your asking. It's a design choice, not actually something significant to the story of the series.

You rise a good point. But I also have to point out that your argument does not truly apply to every digimon. Case and point is MetalGurrumon. you can see way he's called that. Also the whole Ancient prefix thing does not mean they are old or anything like that. It could just be a name. AncientVolcanomon in Xros Wars was just a volcano the looked stupid.

I think time in the Digital World would follow an accelerated timeline starting from the invention of the first computer. Back in the 18th century....
